Victorian Bandstand, Cannon Hill Park

Today’s Autumnal Friday photo is of the Grade II listed Victorian bandstand, situated in Cannon Hill Park. Erected in the late 19th century, it has an octagonal blue-brick and stone base, cast iron columns with decorative pierced brackets and a curved pavilion roof atop which is a cupola with a gilded finial. Today it is surrounded by an area of mature trees and evergreen shrubbery. Cannon Hill Park itself was opened in 1873; the majority of the land having being presented to the people of Birmingham by Miss Louisa Ann Ryland. The park was set out to designs by John Gibson, one of the most prominent park designers of the time.
