Today’s Friday photo is taken on the Tame Valley Canal in Perry Barr.  It features a grade II listed lock keepers cottage sitting next to the number one lock (also listed).  The Tame Valley canal,  constructed in 1844,  runs for 8.5 miles from Salford Junction to the Walsall canal and through the Perry Barr section there are a set of 13 locks to navigate. It was one of the last canals built to feature narrow channels.  The lock cottage and its attached office, was built from 1841-44 in line with the construction of the canal.  It is a nice example of an early Victorian canal cottage.  The two locks immediately in front are number 1 and number 2 locks starting the Perry Barr flight, and both also have listed status.  On the other side of the canal there is also a small visitor centre.
