The Friday Photo – The Old Contemptibles Pub

DSC_8506 blog

We haven’t had many night photographs for the Friday photo so here is the striking – The Old Contemptibles sign which is a name of pub on Edmund Street, Birmingham city centre. There is a long history of a pub being on this site but,  people may if you’re old enough remember  it as the Albion Hotel.  In 1953 it  became the Old Contemptibles pub.

It takes its name from heros from the first World War British Expeditionary Force – dubbed the Old Contemptibles. They  used the building as a meeting place when the conflict was over.
