The Friday Photo – St Mary’s Church Handsworth

St Marys Church Blog

The Friday photo this week is of the splendid St Marys C of E Church which is on Hamstead Rd in Handsworth. The sun was shining on it so there was some interesting shadows giving it a spooky feel. Parts of the Church date back to the 12th Century but it is most famous as the burial place for Boulton, Murdoch and Watt. Its grounds run alongside Handsworth Park and provide some wonderful views over the lake.

I was once very luck to be allowed on the roof of the Tower which had an unexpected small hatch to crawl through at the top – there are some breathtaking views if up there on a sunny day. The tower isn’t open to visitors but the Church and grounds are well worth a visit.
