The Friday Photo: Prefab House Wake Green Rd

20140606-DSC_0957 blog

Last year BCT Director Simon Buteux talked through a list of buildings he thought would be good to include in the Friday Photo. This week we can tick the old prefab grade II listed housing on Wake Green Rd in Moseley off that list. There were built in 1945 as part of a temporary housing programme with around 4,500 built here in Birmingham. There were designed to give an English cottage feel – despite the corrugated iron and asbestos with the sun shining on them many of them do look quite quaint nearly 70 years later.

This photograph was inspired by Walker Evans who was one of the most influential photographers in the twentieth Century as the prefabs houses reminded me of some of the images he took across America in the 1930s. This is how I think he may have captured one of them if he was walking down Wake Green Rd.
