Cycling is one of the things I have taken up in lockdown and that means exploring our wonderful city is much easier and actually, more enjoyable! So, a few weeks ago, armed with my camera and a water bottle (as it was really warm), I went on a ten-mile cycle and accidentally discovered Galton Bridge on my way home. I had to stop to take a photo.

The bridge is incredible and so much larger than I’d imagined. It was built by Thomas Telford in 1829 and when it was constructed, its single span of 151 feet was the highest in the world. The Grade I listed structure was originally a road bridge but it’s now restricted to pedestrians. The view from the canal is fantastic.
