Today’s Friday photo is of a tin tabernacle on the Aldridge Road. It is not the most glamorous of buildings, but it is an interesting historical concept. Tin tabernacles were developed in the mid 19^th century, as prefabricated buildings made out of timber and corrugated galvanised iron, which were then often chosen from a catalogue. Usually constructed as chapels, though sometimes in use as schools, the tin tabernacles were only supposed to be temporary buildings, able to be moved if necessary, so the fact that this one has been around since the early 1900s (perhaps before) is pretty impressive.
