Friday Photo – The Old Contempitbles

Today’s Friday photo is of a building that has no doubt been frequented by many of you as it’s a local favourite – The Old Contemptibles.

Records show that there was a pub on the site since the late 18th Century. The site was redeveloped in 1880 by William Hale and became the Albion Hotel. Ex-servicemen set up their own branch of the Old Contemptibles Association and the used to meet at the public house on Edmund Street and Mitchells and Butlers renamed the pub “The Old Contemptible” in their honour in 1953.
