Today’s Friday photo is the church of St Margaret in Chapel Lane, Great Barr. It is named after Saint Margaret of Antioch. The church was first built on this site in the 13th century and the church has evolved over time to become the grade II listed building we see now.  The church was rebuilt in 1862 but the tower remained from 1677 and the spire is 18th century. In 1893 the addition of a red sandstone Gothic revival casing was added to cover the older tower. In front of the church there is also a beautiful lantern cross war memorial built in the medieval style, which was only recently grade II listed last year. Unfortunately this isn’t very visible in this Friday photo so is deserving of its own post in the future.
