Friday Photo: St David’s Church

Today’s Friday photo is St David’s Church, Shenley. Distinctive with its concrete Brutalist style exterior, St David’s was building during 1969-70. It was designed by the Bournville Village Trust architects, under the direction of Selby Clewer, a chief architect at the organisation, who had also designed the chapel at St Francis of Assisi’s Church, Bournville and Quinton Methodist Church. From the exterior you can see the large lantern tower which illuminates the interior and the angular block bell tower to the front of the building, which personally I love. Unfortunately, the green copper roof had to be replaced with stainless steel in 2012 because of continued thefts.
