Friday Photo: Sovereign Hall, Frederick Street, JQ.

Today’s Friday photo is Sovereign Hall on Frederick Street in the Jewellery Quarter. With its white stucco frontage adjorned with Italianate decoratation, this building has always stood out to me as I pass by on my daily commute. My favourite feature is the bearded gentleman keystones! It was built C1860 as workshop with residential accommodation. Over the years many businesses have been based there, the earliest company I can find listed is the silversmiths, S Blackensee & Son from 1881 until the end of war. It was grade II listed in 1982. As shown in the photo it has recently been sold, so obviously the building is now going into a new chapter of its life.
