You’ve probably heard of 14th-century Minworth Greaves which is now located next to Selly Manor in Bournville, originally situated in Minworth as its name suggests, but Minworth Greaves Farm may not be so familiar. The farm building is actually still in situ, located on the Kingsbury Road between Minworth and Curdworth, and dates from the late 18th Century, next to some of its original outbuildings. The Georgian farm house was converted into private homes in 2001, but still retains its character. Minworth was first mentioned in Domesday Book in 1086 as ‘Meneworde’, coming from the Old English ‘Mynnas worth’ translating as ‘Mynna’s Farmstead’, and was a small and fairly insignificant manor. Interestingly, there is no mention of Minworth in historical records after Domesday Book, most likely because of its proximity to the larger Curdworth and the fact they they were owned by the family. It’s just a shame that the 14th-century ‘Mill at Minworth’ didn’t survive, as that would have been an incredible Friday Photo, but I suppose that’s wishful thinking. Happy weekend everybody!
