Today’s Friday photo was taken at the summit of the Clent Hills, just south west of Birmingham, with views over towards Dudley and the Black Country. The area is now the property of the National Trust, first given to them by Worcestershire County Council and Bromsgrove Rural District Council in 1959. The hills, which rise to a height of 1,037 feet, were included in a chain of bonfires set up to send warning of the Spanish Armada to the Midlands in 1588. A bonfire was also lit on the hills at Bicknall Beacon in 1977 for Queen Elizabeth II‘s silver jubilee and again in 2012 for her golden jubilee. The hills have attracted a large number of visitors since the early 19th century being the lands around the Hagley Park estate. They are particularly beautiful at this time of year, partially covered with a carpet of bluebells.
