Friday Photo – 21 Lugate Hill

This week’s Friday Photo is of a large 19th century red-brick warehouse you’ve most likely walk past, but never looked up to notice just how beautiful it is. Well, it’s not actually a warehouse anymore, but it once was!

Its date of construction is not exactly known, but it’s believed it was built around 1854 for Graham and James, local merchants and factors. It’s a typical Jewellery Quarter building in that there were originally offices at the front of the property and warehousing at the rear of the building. Interestingly, if you walk along the canal, you’ll notice that this side of the building is very plain compared to the ornate design as shown from this angle. I always say this, but if buildings could talk!
