Are you an amateur archaologist? Then July 29th 2011 is your day.

The Day of Archaeology 2011 is an online project that aims to document what archaeologists all over the world – both professionals and volunteers – do on one day, July 29 2011. This date coincides with the Festival of British Archaeology, which runs from 16 – 31 July.

The Day is supported by Centre for Audiovisual Study and Practice in Archaeology (CASPAR), the Council for British Archaeology (CBA – a member of the Alliance), L – P: Archaeology, Wessex Archaeology and the British Museum. Archaeologists taking part in the project will document their day through photographs, videos and written blog posts. These entries will then be collected on the Day’s website, and will provide a glimpse into a day in the life of people working in archaeology across the world.

The project wants to hear from anyone working or volunteering in any aspect of archaeology, from anywhere in the world. It’s completely free to join, and is organised and managed by a team of volunteers who are happy to support people who wish to participate but do not feel comfortable using digital technologies.
